Rules
As a DM in our West Marches Campaign, you are free to do as you wish in the world. Feel free to wreak havoc. You have the freedom to destabilize economies, topple rulers, invent enormous foes, and ruin whole swaths of land as your players or NPC's affect the landscape. We do have a few rules however.
- DO NOT kill any gods.
- DO NOT kill off Harold Strongjaw. He owns the Dragon's Flagon Speakeasy, and he's pretty central to the running of the campaign. He's also canonically a good guy, aligned as Neutral Good. He acts in self-interest, as a businessman but he's happy to allow what he perceives to be the Good in the world to benefit from his wealth. Do not make him the villain.
- DO NOT infringe on other DM's mini campaigns or quest lines. If you want to drastically change a territory, you'll need to cordone off that area so only you have access to it. Luckily, Terendel is huge, so there's more than enough room for all of us.
- Disputes will be arbitrated by UberDM Dovid E. Z. Stern.
Guidelines
There are some things that can be recommended, but they are not hard and fast rules. Think of them as "best practices" in general D&D. However, you are free to break them. Just know that breaking some of these guidelines may ruin players experience in other DM's adventures.
- DO hand out loot with caution. Wealth in D&D is power, and the players desire power. But if money is no object to them, it becomes difficult for other DM's to offer tangible risk without inflating their own economies.
- DO hand out magic items with caution. The logic is the same as guideline #1. Too much power makes the game unbalanced.
- DO try to use other DM's notes on their towns and NPC's. It helps keep the world feel consistent across games.
